Tuning drums for jazz...

Can anyone help me with this? I'm not really good at tuning in general either but I'd like to be able to get a more jazz sound out of my drums... I will be switching heads to some kind of coated single ply head soon... but what I was actually concerned about was this.... i was listening to Art Blakey, Jeff Hamilton and watching the videos of Ari... and was wondering how these people get their pitch bend sound when they dig the sticks into the drums... cuz right now, my drums dont do that... (or atleast they sound pretty bad when they do).... how do I get these heads tune so that they can still sing while having the pitch bend stick technique applied?

I would encourage you to visit this site and download it all. Go through everything then begin to apply the tuning concepts. Not sure where you are in your tuning knowledge but I found this one of the single most important areas of drumming for me. I thought I had a clue for quite some time about tuning but the sound I was able to pull from my drums after this was far superior. There is no substitute for doing it your self....failing....detuning the drum and starting over. One of the biggest revelations to me was how just the smallest turn of the key could make such a big difference!Professor Sound Drum Tuning

Hamilton gets a great sound out of that Remo kit. He's using those calf-skin like synthetic heads by Remo (I forget the model). The toms and kick really project but in a warm way.
